Obituary of Larry Alvin McLauchlin
Larry Alvin McLauchlin of Calgary, beloved husband of forty years to Joan, passed away at the Southwood Hospice on April 19, 2008, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
Larry was born at the Calgary General Hospital on September 11, 1943, to Leon and Annie McLauchlin. He lived in Calgary until the age of ten when his family moved to Strathmore, Alberta. Larry later moved back to Calgary to attend SAIT. After graduation, he joined BA/Gulf Oil and spent the next thirty years with the company. During his time at Gulf, he spent many years working in the Arctic Islands, Hibernia and the Beaufort Sea. After retiring from Gulf, Larry had a short but successful career in real estate, preferring instead to coach other realtors and business people. He truly enjoyed training hypnotists and coaching/mentoring others to better themselves and he developed a business around these passions. Larry also authored and published two very successful books on the subject of NLP. Besides teaching and coaching others, his favourite pastimes included reading, learning new things, spending time with his family and friends (particularly his four grandchildren whom he doted on), taking his boat out for a spin on Glennifer lake and hanging out at the family trailer at the Carefree Resort. Larry was a truly wonderful man who touched so many with his optimism, intelligence, strong spirit, caring words and devotion to his family and friends. He had an infectious smile that no one could resist. He loved his family dearly and we are so very lucky to have called him husband, dad, granddad, son and friend.
Larry is survived by his son Robb (Kerri-Ann), daughter Jenny (Paul) Huizinga and his beloved grandchildren Aidan and Ainsley McLauchlin, and Caitlyn and Jack Huizinga. He is also survived by his mother Annie McLauchlin of Strathmore, his brother Melvin (Sue), his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ian and Lois Currie of Creston, B.C. and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind so many true, dear friends – too numerous to name.
A Celebration of Larry’s life will be held at Living Spirit United Church (629 – 49 Avenue, S.W. Calgary, Alberta) on Thursday, April 24, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
