Obituary of Yzetta Ellen Martin
Yzetta Ellen Charlotte Martin (nee Freeman), passed away peacefully in Calgary, on Monday, April 14, 2008, surrounded by her loving family and the caring support of the ICU Staff at the Rockyview General Hospital.
Born in Selkirk, Manitoba, Yzetta was the youngest of four children and was the only daughter of Ellen and George Freeman. In the summer of 1944, Yzetta’s independence led her to accept an employment transfer to Calgary. Two years later, she met the love of her life, Herb and on July 30, 1947 they were married in Selkirk and returned to Calgary to start a family. Yzetta worked for the Calgary Central YMCA for twenty-six years, making many life long friends and acquaintances. She retired in 1988 to enjoy travelling and her grandchildren. Yzetta also enjoyed some of her favorite hobbies including painting, gardening, quilting, golfing and bridge. She was a long standing resident of Millican-Ogden in Calgary, where she was an active member of the Ogden House Senior Citizens Club and the Ogden United Church. Most recently, Yzetta resided at Mackenzie Towne Seniors Residence.
Yzetta is lovingly remembered by her sons and daughters-in-law, Herb and Susan of Sherwood Park, and Guy and Kathy of Okotoks; grandchildren, Claire (Wesley) Schneider and Jennifer Martin of Edmonton, Zachary Martin and Kellen Martin of Okotoks; in-laws, Jim and Mary Martin, Helen and Ian Jamieson; numerous nieces and nephews throughout Canada and the United States as well as many dear friends. Yzetta was predeceased by her husband Herb, her great-grandsons, Joshua and Jacob Schneider, and her brothers, Raymond, Robert and Charles.
Memorial Service and Celebration of Yzetta’s life will be held at Ogden United Church (7401 – 23rd Street S.E.) on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 11:30 AM, with Susan Wilkinson-Matticks L.M. Presider.
