Obituary of James Douglas Rogers

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Doug Rogers. Doug lost the battle against liver disease after a short but courageous fight. He passed peacefully on April 12th surrounded by his loving family. Doug was born in 1951 to Bill and Marg Rogers and grew up with his parents and brother, John, in Kimberly, BC. His passion was for the outdoors but most especially for downhill racing on the BC Provincial Ski Team. He moved to Calgary in 1973 to attend SAIT where he received his Structural Engineering Technology diploma. He worked in the oil patch until 2003 and then moved on to a new and exciting venture as CEO of Studon Electric and Controls. Doug and the love of his life, Lynn, met on a ski trip to Sun Valley, Idaho in 1978. They were married and had two wonderful children, Katherine, 26, and John, 24. Doug also had a special place in his heart for his son-in-law, Josh, and “second daughter” Lindsay. The family has many cherished memories of trips taken together to Europe, Maui, Kelowna, and New York. Perhaps the most treasured memories will be skiing deep powder on Snake Ridge at Fernie, BC, the family’s home away from home. During the last 10 years of his life, Doug discovered his love of cycling and enjoyed numerous trips with friends, most notably the Tour de Slocan. Doug found tremendous inner peace and freedom during the many hours spent on his Merlin. One of Doug’s greatest personal accomplishments was joining a team of riders to cycle from Calgary to Austin, Texas in support of Cancer survivorship (Cancervive) in October of 2007. This was a life changing experience for Doug and one that demonstrated his dedication, strength, and commitment to teamwork. Doug touched many people during his life and will always be remembered as a loving husband, wonderful father, role model, and friend. A Celebration of Doug’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.) on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. In Doug’s memory, donations can be made to Cancervive at www.cancercive.ca, follow the link to Doug Rogers Memorial Fund.
