Obituary of Stanely John Powell
Stanley John Powell, beloved husband of Helen Powell of Calgary, passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 10, 2008 at the age of 81 years.
Stanley was born in Vilna, Alberta. He was an exploration accountant for 30 years for Shell Oil. Stanley had a love of horses, dogs, gardening, golf, and watching hockey. He was a loyal volunteer for the Calgary Stampede for over 25 years, and worked at a lot of local horse shows. Known for his sense of humor, Stanley loved making people laugh. He will be lovingly remembered by family and many friends who admired him for his honesty, integrity, gentle spirit and wonderful smile. He touched the lives of all who knew him. We will miss him so much.
Besides his loving wife Helen, Stanley is also survived by his daughter Terry Ann Powell, and grandson Sean Broadhurst. He is also survived by brothers, Steve (Gen), Frank (Irene), Andrew (Minnie), Walter (Olga), Sidney (Irene); and sisters, Josephine and Olga (Leo). Stanley was predeceased by his parents, one brother, Paul, and two sisters, Barbara and Rose.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.) on Tuesday, April 15 from 6:00 to 8:30. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke’s Catholic Church (Corner of Northmount Drive & Northland Drive N.W.) on Wednesday, April 16 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside service will be held at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
