Obituary of Audrey May Etherington

Audrey, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away of pneumonia at the Rockyview General Hospital on Sunday, April 6, 2008 at the age of 88 years. Audrey was a proud native Calgarian who was born on Christmas Eve in 1919. She grew up in Crescent Heights and attended Balmoral and Crescent Heights schools. Audrey met future husband Bob (a member of the RAF) in November 1941 and they were married in August 1943. Bob was sent back to England and Audrey, a war bride, followed in August 1944. They remained in England until March 1948 when they returned to Canada. Audrey helped Bob build their house in Tuxedo Park where they lived for fifty-one years. Later they made a new home at the Huntington Hills Manor where they had many valued friendships. Audrey was a long time active member of St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church and later a member of Good Shepherd Moravian Church. Since 1973, Audrey worked tirelessly for the Canadian Red Cross sharing her talents for crafts and showing her compassion for others. Audrey treasured her friends and loved to entertain. Audrey is survived by daughters Jeanne (John) and Brenda; her grandchildren Jennifer (Joe), Rob (Sheri) and Laurie (Dan); and sisters Kay and Bet (Dick). Audrey was predeceased by her loving husband Bob in July 2007. A Celebration of Audrey’s Life will be held at the Good Shepherd Moravian Church (6311 Norfolk Drive N.W.) on Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
