Obituary of Katherine Smith

Katherine (Kay) Smith, beloved wife of William Smith of Calgary, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family after a valiant battle with cancer on Friday, April 4, 2008 at the age of 79 years, just eight days short of her 80th birthday. Katherine was born in Melville, SK and raised in Saskatoon where she met and married her childhood sweetheart, Bill. Kay lived a simple life and her greatest joy was time spent with her family. She will be remembered fondly for her kindness, her welcoming smile and her deep blue eyes that never lost their sparkle! Kay had a way of making each and every person feel special in her presence. She asked very little of others, but gave unconditionally of herself-even to the very end. Kay had a deep and strong faith in God and a great awareness that she would be going to a better place. Kay leaves behind to celebrate her life her beloved husband of sixty-one years, Bill (William) Smith, son and daughter-in-law Tom and Mary Smith of Calgary, AB, daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Tony Assen of Red Deer, AB, seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She will also be lovingly remembered by her brother and sister-in-law Mike and Donna Famulak, her sister Marie Phillips from Saskatoon, and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Stephen and Euphemia Famulak.
