Obituary of James Alton Nidd

James Nidd, beloved husband of Bernice Nidd (nee Johnston) of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at the age of 85 years. James was born in Ottawa, ON, married Bernice in 1949 and moved his family to Calgary, AB in 1957. James’s career was in aerial photography and he worked for Spartan Air Services, Kenting Services and finally formed his own company, Foto Flight, in 1978. Jim was a WWII Veteran, joining the Canadian Armed Forces at eighteen; he spent the next four years on the front lines in Europe. The loves of Jim’s life were his family, hunting and fishing, smoking his cigar and walking his dog in the prairie. He also was a life-long learner, always with a book in hand; he passed this love of knowledge onto his children. Besides his wife, Bernice, James is survived by his five children, Phillip Nidd (Christine) of Houston, TX; Deborah Guthrie (William) of Kelowna, BC; David Nidd (Debbie) of Creston, BC; Mark Nidd of Kelowna, BC; Joanne Rota (Tony) of Revelstoke, BC; eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild as well as several nephews and nieces. James was predeceased by his parents, James & Beatrice; sister Sadie Stevenson, brothers Donald and Morley Nidd. A Celebration of James’s life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
