Obituary of Velma Louella Kelsch

Velma Louella Kelsch of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at the age of 90 years. Velma was born in Glentworth SK to R. Britton & Amelia (Lovo) Payne. She grew up on the family farm with Myrtle, Lila, Emerson, Retha, Carl & Oscar. She attended school in Glentworth and Regina. Velma married Peter E. Kelsch on September 5, 1937, moving from SK to Calgary with two daughters in 1948 & had another daughter & son in Calgary. Velma is survived by daughters Myrna (Greg) Yaholnitsky of Preeceville, SK, Louise (Mike) Holden of High River, Shirley LeGoffic & son Ralph Peter (Jack Loenen, deceased) of Calgary; Retha Weibe; five grandchildren & ten great-grandchildren. Velma had a very large extended family & many dear lifelong friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband in July 1988 and two grandchildren. She was an active member of St. Matthews United Church, U.C.T. & Eastern Star. Devoting most of her life to family & homemaking, she also made time for dancing, curling & loved being a snowbird, wintering with Peter in Meza, AZ for many years. Velma lived life to the fullest as long as possible. Alzheimer’s shortened the quality of her life but not her smile or handholding abilities. A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
