Obituary of Walter Simeon

We sadly announce the loss of Stoney Nation’s oldest elder, Walter (Ada) Simeon Sr., on Friday, March 21, 2008. Walter is known as “Tatunga Thkun” meaning “White Buffalo.” We honour our father (Ada), grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather for his life of 97 years. Walter (Ada) was eleven years old when he started working as a ranch hand within the surrounding ranches such as the Copithornes, Buckleys, Edge, Collins, Munro, Boothby, Dolan, Weadick, and Robinson, to name a few. Walter has endured and accomplished all aspects of agricultural work throughout his life. His love for such has enabled him to start his own farm and ranch. On January 9, 1930 he married Alma Wildman. It was a great honour for Walter to become very close friends with his one and only brother-in-law, Bert Wildman. Both Walter and Bert worked side-by-side in ranching and farming. In 1970, both Walter and Bert founded the present day Potts Ranch where they both played a major role in the operations. Walter is survived by his two daughters, Catherine and Marie (Rupert); one son, Dean (Joan); one brother, Jack; one adopted son, Fred S. Powderface; and a sister-in-law, Tina. Walter also leaves behind sixteen grandchildren; forty-seven great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; as well as many extended families in Morley, Tsuu T’ina and Duffield Reserves. He was predeceased by his wife Alma on September 30, 1980; his parents David and Margaret Simeon; his infant son Ivan in 1937; his infant daughter Beverly in 1935; his son Brian on June 16, 1973; his sister-in-law Lily in October 2007 and her husband Lazarus in February 2008. Wake Services will be held at the residence of the Late Walter Simeon on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 and Thursday, March 27, 2008. Funeral Services will be held at Morley United Church, Morley, AB, on Friday, March 28 at 1:00 P.M., then shortly thereafter the service will be moved to the Morley Gymnasium.
