Obituary of Anna Austin

After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music-Aldous Huxley Anna Austin, beloved wife of Grey, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 24, 2008. Anna was born in West Bay, Cape Breton. She attended Normal School in Truro, NS and studied voice in New York and Toronto. Anna came west to Calgary in 1953 where she taught in the public school system. She met Grey at an Allied Arts Centre musical evening at Coste House. They were married on August 20, 1955 and together Anna and Grey shared a life long love of music and the arts. Anna is survived by her husband Grey; sister Mary MacInnis; son Charles Austin (Isabella); daughters, Janet Austin (Ashley), Patricia Austin-Edy (Brian), Joan Simmins (Geoffrey); and many nieces and nephews. She took delight in her four grandsons, David, Michael, Andrew, and Rowan. Anna was predeceased by her parents Alexander and Janet and brothers, Ian, Allister, and Cameron. Anna will be remembered for her devotion to family and her kindness and respect for all people. A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Church Elbow Park (3602 – 8th Street S.W.) on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
