Maurice Todd

Obituary of Maurice Charles Todd

Maurice Charles Todd; Father, Husband, Brother, Friend and Horseman made it home on Easter Sunday, no doubt on horseback. His loving family remains honoured to have held his hands and “Ride With Him” the whole way home. They have lost their hero. Maurice, a patient teacher until the end, bids farewell to his wife Lucy, son Michael and daughter Debbie who are immensely joyful for the days they spent, together again. Maurice knew no greater joy than the love of his family and knew no sacrifice too great for them. His kind smile, telltale eyebrows, and loving hands will be missed by his family and dear friends in Calgary and surrounding small towns where he enjoyed his retirement. A passion for western life ran deep in his blood; he proved himself a natural horseman and the “Big Guy” will miss his devoted friend. Maurice’s sources of peace and passion were simple: a good day of riding the Bay Quarter with the sun on his face and the wind at his back. He never sold his saddle. Maurice endured immense pain without a single complaint for more years than he ever let on. In spite of great pain, he concerned himself only with the comfort of others. His last living gift was to his wife; he died on her birthday. Unselfishly she asked him to stop suffering and Maurice, unselfishly, did not let her down. Dad, you gave us life – everything we are and have. You let us be with you when you gave your life and your gift will never be forgotten. Maurice was born in Consort Alberta, raised in Stettler, lived in Beiseker and Calgary. He is predeceased by his Mother Irene and Father Edward of Stettler and survived by his sister Eunice Kirr and her family Art, Kevin and Brian of Edmonton. Thanks to staff in Units 53, 51, and ICU at Peter Lougheed. Thank you to Dr. Girard and his Green Team, Torie and Eltoff. You were great soldiers in a tough battle; this war was not lost! “This life for me is truly passed. I loved you all to the very last. Weep not for me, but courage take And love one another for my sake.” Please join his family for A Celebration of this Cowboy’s life at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
