Born in Banban, Bangui, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, Jose grew up with a zest for life. He enjoyed being together with family and friends, loved dancing and singing, as well as his time spent fishing, hunting and farming. Jose also served with the Philippine Army in World War II alongside Allied U.S. forces. After the war, Jose continued to serve in the civic arena and was head of his Baranggay community for many years helping in various areas including the Farmers’ Association and the Water System Commission. On February 14, 1978, Jose and his wife immigrated to Calgary. He worked as a carpenter with Modern Homes before retiring. Jose loved to cultivate his own beautiful flower and vegetable gardens and ensured that neighbours received gifts from his harvests. He enjoyed making new friends and entertained many with his wonderful storytelling. He was an avid boxing fan, loved taking pictures and home videos with family and had a passion for recycling.
