Obituary of Jose Manaday Acido

Jose Manaday Acido, beloved husband of sixty-nine years to Epifania Acido of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at the age of 91 years. A devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Jose will be lovingly remembered by his wife and four daughters and their families: Wenefrida (Vicente – pre-deceased) Soriano and their children – Wevilene (Nick) Pedronan, Vicente Jr. (Helen), Rodel – pre-deceased (Rosalia), Susan (Michael), and Joseph; Clemencia; Aniceta; and Angelita (Leopoldo) Liscano and their children – Michael (Heather), Christopher (Jen), Leo and Timothy (a.k.a. Mocho). He is adored by his great-grandchildren: Jennifer, Kevin, Vanessa, Shantelle, Vincent, Winona, Hillary, Samuel, Selena, Isabel, Ivana, and Hannah. He is also survived by three siblings: brother Fernando (Concepcion), sister Felicisima (Severo) Lampitoc and brother Ambrosio (Felicidad – pre-deceased). Jose will be greatly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was also affectionately known as “Joe” to many. Born in Banban, Bangui, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, Jose grew up with a zest for life. He enjoyed being together with family and friends, loved dancing and singing, as well as his time spent fishing, hunting and farming. Jose also served with the Philippine Army in World War II alongside Allied U.S. forces. After the war, Jose continued to serve in the civic arena and was head of his Baranggay community for many years helping in various areas including the Farmers’ Association and the Water System Commission. On February 14, 1978, Jose and his wife immigrated to Calgary. He worked as a carpenter with Modern Homes before retiring. Jose loved to cultivate his own beautiful flower and vegetable gardens and ensured that neighbours received gifts from his harvests. He enjoyed making new friends and entertained many with his wonderful storytelling. He was an avid boxing fan, loved taking pictures and home videos with family and had a passion for recycling. He was a blessing to us all.
