Obituary of Louisa Cornelia Moffat

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Louisa Cornelia (nee van de Werve) Moffat, affectionately known as Lucia, beloved wife of Tom Moffat, on Friday, March 14, 2008. She passed away peacefully at the Foothills Medical Centre with her family by her side. Lucia was born in Gouda, Holland and moved to Canada in 1949 with her parents and her brother. She lived and worked in Ontario before moving to Calgary where she met and married her husband, Tom. During their forty-nine years of marriage, Lucia and Tom had three children with whom they spent many memorable holidays camping in Canada and traveling abroad. Lucia went back to school to become a Librarian and managed the Leduc Public Library for many years. She was passionate about gardening and loved all kinds of crafts including stained glass, toll painting, embroidery and knitting. Lucia enjoyed engaging people in conversation. A casual meeting with Lucia would more often than not turn into a lifelong friendship. Besides her loving husband Tom, Lucia will be sadly missed by her children James Moffat, Marijke Couch and Peter Moffat; six grandchildren; two sisters Frederica, and Ans; and her brother Ben; as well as her nieces and nephews. A Celebration and Tribute to Lucia’s Life will be held at St. Andrews United Church, (128 First Street East, Cochrane, AB), on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
