Obituary of Hickey D.F.C., P.Eng
Francis Lawrence Hickey, passed away peacefully in Kimberley, BC on Sunday, March 9, 2008 at the age of 85 years.
Frank graduated from St. Mary’s Boys High School in Calgary and the University of Alberta in Edmonton. As a geophysicist his career took him overseas to Australia, Singapore, Brazil, Nepal, Africa and the United States. Upon retirement, he and Donna returned to Calgary. He served honorably in the R.C.A.F. during World War II and was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross. One of Frank’s greatest enjoyments in life was spending time cheering on his grandchildren at countless hockey, basketball, volleyball, football and swimming events. Whenever it was game on “Grandpa Frank” was always a fixture in the stands cheering on the grandkids and their teams.
He is survived by his daughter Donna Hickey of Edmonton, AB, his son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Maredah of Kimberley, BC and by his son Patrick Hickey of Warren, VT. He is also survived by his sister Cecilia Jacobs of Calgary, AB and by his three grandchildren, Andrew Hickey, Kristy and her husband Andy Myles and Katrina Hickey of Calgary, AB. Frank was predeceased by his wife Donna Margaret in 1991.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Cathedral (219 – 18th Avenue S.W.) on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 10:30 a.m.. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
