Obituary of Owl Child

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Mary Owl Child (nee Sun Walk) after a brief illness on Saturday, March 8, 2008. Dorothy was born March 1, 1943 in Gleichen, AB. She attended Crowfoot Residential School and recently attended the Day Treatment Program offered through the Siksika Healing Centre. Dorothy was very supportive of your brothers, who were members of the Crowfoot and Eagle Society drum groups, and she enjoyed dancing whenever possible. Dorothy was known for and will be remembered for her sense of humor and contagious laugh; having a joke or witty comment to share with those she knew. Dorothy leaves to mourn her husband Albert; sons, Sheldon (Lisa), Alden (Leita), Adolphus Jr., Stanley, and Leon (Susan); grandchildren, Michael, Clinton, Lisa, Jason, Sherri, Candace, Cassie, Sharisa, Dakota, Stanley, Tiegen, Levi, Shaldon Jr., Sage, Phoneix, Shishini, and Nevgeh and Myles. Dorothy was great-grama to Aiden, Ozzarius, Gladys, Dale, Jason Jr. and Elijah. She is also survived by her sister Clara (Frank) Big Tobacco, her uncles James Calf and Simon Prairie Chicken and her sister in law, Doris Yellow Fly. Also left to mourn are her adoptive children; Charlotte (Gary) Drunken Chief, Tommy (Shirley) Jerry, Willie (Pam) Jerry, Rhonda (Hector) Winnipeg, Louis (Flora) Auger, and Melvin (Christine) White Man, and numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy’s extended family includes the Calfs, Many Bears, Many Shots, White Mans, Little Chiefs, Bear Shirts, Cutters, Pards, Many Fires, Scalp Lock, White Eagles, White Elks, Sleighs, Solways and Medicine Shields. The family apologizes for anyone we may have missed. Dorothy was predeceased by her grandparents Betsy and One Gun, and Henry Black Eagle & Pauline Sun Walk, her parents Henry and Clara Sun Walk, brothers Robert, Garry and Leo Sun Walk, sisters Pauline, Ruby & Ramona Sun Walk. Also welcoming Dorothy are the following; her son Jason, grandson Kashtin, nephew Wesley and niece Renate Sun Walk. Wake services will be held at the Little Washington Community Centre (Siksika Nation) on Friday, March 14, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Little Washington Community Centre (Siksika Nation) on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. with Vincent Yellow Old Woman Presiding.
