Obituary of George Elpheige Lapierre
George Lapierre of Calgary, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2008 at the age of 95 years.
George, the son of Azilda Tétreault and Elpheige Lapierre, was born in Morinville, AB and grew up on the family farm near Pickardville. While playing in a local band he met the love of his life, Irene Eklund of Mayerthrope, AB. They were married on June 21, 1938. Shortly after, George enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served his country during World War II. He then started his own automotive repair, fuel sales and RV dealership. George will always be remembered for his dedication and strong work ethic. In his spare time he enjoyed playing his accordion, piano and keyboards. George’s final years were spent at the Jackson Willan Senior’s Residence and the George Boyack Facility.
George will be remembered by his sister, Irene Lavoie of Edmonton; his five children, Theresa Lapierre of Arizona, Darrel Lapierre of Calgary, Dennis (Renee) Lapierre of Falkland BC, Rosanne (Boris) Hromic of Cochrane, Maurice (Linda) Lapierre of Calgary; and also numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
George was predeceased by Irene Lapierre, his wife of sixty-two years, and his brother, Wilfred Lapierre of Quebec.
Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, March 14, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queens Park Cemetery.
