Douglas Cassidy

Obituary of Douglas Matthew Cassidy

In a room filled with love, Dr. Douglas M. Cassidy, beloved husband of Teata Cassidy peacefully departed from his family on March 5, 2008 at the age of 83. Doug was born in Howth, Ireland and graduated from National University in 1947. He was a devoted family doctor in Ireland, Newfoundland, East Africa, Peace River and Fort Vermillion. He then settled in Calgary with the Associated Clinic until his retirement in 1994. Doug was well known for his great sense of humour which he combined with a true devotion to his profession. Doug loved Calgary and his mountains, and enjoyed long drives, listening to classical music, gardening, and spending time with his golf buddies at the Glencoe Club. He was a loving husband and father, a great story teller and will be missed more than words can ever express, but he would not have wanted any sad affair, so at his request there will be no service. Doug is survived by his wife Teata, his children who were his pride and joy: Ann (Randy); Maura; Barbara (Brian); David (Theresa) and his grandchildren Brent, Michael, Sarah, Glen, Brett and Heather; his brothers, Desmond (Anne), and Raymond (Eilish) in Ireland. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations in his honour be made to Doctors Without Borders (720 Spadina Avenue, Suite 402 Toronto, Ontario, M5S 2T9 Tel: (800) 982 7903 Toll Free (416) 964 0619 Fax: (416) 963 8707 e-mail: msfcan@msf.ca) or to a charity of your choice. The Cassidy family would like to extend their grateful thanks to the staff of the McKenzie Towne Care Centre for their devoted and compassionate care.
