Obituary of Douglas Richard Byers
Douglas Richard Byers of Calgary passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the age of 46 years.
Doug will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Dick and Eleanor Byers; his sister, Diane Howell, her husband Steve and their sons, Brendan and Andrew; his brother, Stephen, his wife Michelle and their daughter Lindsay. Doug was also special to his loving partner Lesley and his young buddy Jordan.
Born and raised in Calgary, Doug graduated from William Aberhart High School, and then his natural talents as an innovative “fix anything” guy led him to a diploma from SAIT in Aircraft Maintenance. Doug was an avid camper, summer and winter, and his hunting and fishing skills were the envy of his dad and his brother. Doug’s brave fighting spirit brought him back from a devastating spinal cord injury in 1991 to a place that astounded his medical team and his family. His family holds fond memories of Doug with a constant pet at his side, whether roaming his favourite childhood haunt, Nose Hill, setting up camp at Chungo Creek or riding the back road at Gull Lake on his motorbike.
A Celebration of Doug’s life will be held at St. David’s United Church (3303 Capitol Hill Crescent N.W.) on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to S.T.A.R.S. (Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society) or to the Canadian Wildlife Federation.
In living memory of Doug, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot Chapel, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE N.W. Telephone: (403) 241-0044.
