Mary Sabo

Obituary of Mary Magdalene Sabo

After many good years on this earth, it is with a mixture of extreme sadness and joyful hope we announce that Mary’s journey here ended peacefully on Thursday, February 21, 2008 at the age of 88 years. Born in Dilke, Saskatchewan, she ventured away from the farm to pursue nursing, working in many places across the western provinces where she engaged in many people’s lives. She met the man of her life while nursing in Lethbridge, AB, her loving husband of over 55 years, Otmar. She extended hospitality, inviting many a friend into her home to partake of her baking and other treats, knitting was one of her passions, and many a blanket for a newborn did she craft. Her life spoke richly of her love and acceptance of people as they were. Her family meant everything to her, and there she was always willing to listen and help out where needed. She enjoyed the mountains, gardening (better than housework), dancing, and caring for others. Each of us are comforted and nourished, having been touched by the gift of her life and gentle inviting ways. Mary’s parting comment spoken so often was “We’ll keep in touch.” Indeed, her memory will live on as she touched us deeply. Mary is survived by her husband, Otmar; and their four children, Ron (Arlene), JoAnn, Darryl (Kathleen), and Kelly (Susan). She leaves seven grandchildren: Albert, Rachel, Courtney, Brett, Jared, Cassady, and Kyler. She is also survived by her sister, Evelyn Ehman; and sister-in-laws, Mona Fahlman and Marlene Fahlman; and brother-in law, Frank (Iris); and numerous nieces and nephews. Apart from us, she will be deeply missed, but we know she is free from the pain and suffering. She goes on to her new life with her precious grandchildren, Adam and Natasha; parents John and Susan Fahlman; sisters and brothers, Sister Amanda, Christina, Elizabeth, Helen, John, Joseph, Ronald, Rita, and Gerald; as well as her sister / brothers-in-law Ken, Phil, John, Helen, and Fred, who went before her. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at on Thursday, February 28, 2008 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow in the “Holy Family” section at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. Forward condolences through . In lieu of flowers, the honour of sending a donation in memory of her granddaughter Natasha to the International Rett Syndrome Foundation (/ for details) is desired, as there has been major progress towards a cure for this disorder. Many thanks to the staff at the Chinook Care Centre for your support through her final days.
