Obituary of Mildred Irene Hayes

Mildred Irene Hayes of Calgary passed away on February 17, 2008 at the age of 89 years. Mildred was born on February 9, 1919 in Ghost Pine Creek, AB. Mildred worked as a treasurer for Senator Patrick Burns’ ranches for 45 years. She loved sewing and crafts and enjoyed travelling and hiking but her family was her greatest love. Mildred was the matriarch of the family, quietly guiding her brothers and sisters through life. She was a charter member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church and was very active in the ladies group. Mildred is survived by her two brothers, Norman Hayes and Jim (Marilyn) Hayes both of Calgary; her sister-in-law Eddie Hayes; her twelve nieces and nephews; twenty-four great nieces and nephews; and twenty-four great-great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Tom and Ruth Hayes; her sister Jean (George) McGowan; her brother Bob Hayes; and her sister-in-law Gaile Hayes. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Giles Presbyterian Church (1102 – 23 Avenue NW) on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. A Family Graveside Service at Mountain View Memorial Gardens to follow at a later date.
