Obituary of Adolfina Havard

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Phena Havard on Monday, February 11, 2008 at the age of 96 years. Phena was born in Bukovina, Austria in 1911 and immigrated to the Assiniboia area of Saskatchewan in 1915. While in Saskatchewan, she farmed in the Scout Lake area and ran a general store in Balgonie, SK. Phena moved to Calgary in 1951 where she resided until her death. She loved to dance, play cards and cook. Phena will be warmly remembered for her kindness, hospitality and friendship. Phena will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters and sons-in-law, June and Jim Bachman of Regina and Gail and Robert Matthews of Edmonton and her son and daughter-in-law, Len and Bev Kwasnicki of Calgary; six grandchildren, Glenn (Sharon), Duane (Lori), Darren (Kelly), Greg (Diane), Lee-Anne (Rick) and Pam; thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She also leaves to cherish her memory, her sister Clara Faford of Kelowna; her special step-daughter, Gail Havard of Calgary and her family. Phena was predeceased by her two husbands, Adam Kwasnicki (1962) and Archie Havard (1982); her four brothers, Carl, Richard, John and Clem and grandson Dean Kwasnicki (2006). Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (640 – 19th Avenue N.W.) on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
