Obituary of Leonard Leroy Byers

Leonard (Len) Leroy Byers, of High River, passed away on Friday, February 8, 2008 at the age of 80. Len was born in Welwyn, Saskatchewan, and moved to Calgary in 1948. He worked in construction and became a fine carpenter. He met his wife Dorothy and they were married in 1950. Len worked for Poole Construction and then the Provincial Government at SAIT until his retirement in 1982. He also worked many years part-time at Heritage Park in Calgary. Upon his retirement they moved to Hedley, BC for a few years, back to Calgary, and had been in High River since June, 1994. Len leaves to mourn his partner Joan Larson; sons, Tom (Joanne) of Calgary, Rick (Mary Lynne) of High River, daughter Tish of Calgary; seven grandchildren, Sarah (Warren), Nick, Lisa, Amanda (Nick), Jesse (Laura), Matthew, Joel; and five great-grandchildren, Faith, Jacob, Nicholas, Asher, and Cole. Len is also survived by sisters, Ruby McGibney and Stella Tapp; sister-in-law, Barb Brown; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and a long list of good friends. Len was predeceased by his wife Dorothy (2001); daughter Brenda (2004); his parents; brother Norman; and sister Phyllis. At Len’s request, no funeral service will be held.
