Obituary of Sylvia Binnie

Sylvia Isobelle Binnie of Calgary passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at the age of 93 years. Sylvia was born in Nelson, B.C. in 1914 and lived in Sandon, Vancouver, Moyie and Kimberley, B.C. She worked for Cominco in Kimberley before her marriage to William Binnie on February 26, 1938. Sylvia raised Bill’s son Arthur (deceased 1972) and had two daughters, Evelyn Fells of Kamloops and Athlyn (Howard) Leary of Calgary. Sylvia and Bill moved to Calgary in 1986. Besides her daughters, Sylvia is survived by Arthur’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Evelyn’s daughter and granddaughter; Howard’s extended family as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Bill in November, 2003. The family wishes to thank Calgary EMS, Foothills Hospital doctors and nurses, her homecare providers (especially Sherry), Dr. Mark Joyce, Boardwalk Retirement Community residents and staff who made the past eighteen months so enjoyable and a special thanks to Bob Apps who has been a special, loyal friend since Kimberley days.
