Obituary of Selma Belch
Selma Belch of Calgary passed away at Bow View Manor on Monday, January 28, 2008 at the age of 96 years.
Selma was born in Lithuania and moved to the family farm at Sidewood, SK in 1923. She married Charlie Belch, a CP Railman in 1933 and they moved to Gull Lake, SK as well as several locations in Saskatchewan before retiring to Calgary in 1964. Selma was a member of CWL at St. Bernard’s Church parish for over forty years. She was a member of West Hillhurst Go-Getters where she enjoyed cards and crafts. In her later years, she resided at Shouldice Lodge and then at Bow View Manor for the past one and a half years.
Selma is survived by her son, Charles (Alva) Belch; daughter Mary Ann (Gordon) Hustad; sister-in-law Diane Babush; five grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Charlie in 1992 and her brothers John (Emily) and Bill Babush.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, February 1, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church (711 – 37th Street N.W.) on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor’s choice. The family would like to thank the staff at Bow View Manor for the compassionate care given to Selma.
