Obituary of Antonie Rosa Brown
A Memorial Service will be held for Tonie Brown at McInnis & Holloway’s Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.) on April 1, 2008 at 10:30 a.m.
In 1938, Tonie obtained her masters certificate in cosmetology from the Maxine College of Beauty Culture in Vancouver, B.C. She instructed in her profession briefly before practicing hair dressing in Jasper and Calgary. In 1947 she married William (Bill) who predeceased her in 1988. They had no children. Bridge was her passion, and she was very proud of the gold and silver medals she won in the Calgary Summer Games, and Zone 3 finals. She was one of the Alberta representatives in the Canada Senior games which were held in Summerside, P.E.I. in 2002. Tonie resided at Valley Ridge Lodge for four enjoyable years prior to entering the long-term care facility in Canmore, before spending her final days in the Bow Crest care centre in Calgary.
Among those who were most close to her, Tonie is survived by her niece Betty (Brian) Monaghan; nephews, George (Ida) Kubicek, Douglas (Sharon) Kubicek, Robert (Mila) Kubicek; and her niece-in-law, Nora (Bill) Smart. Also surviving her are many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
