Obituary of Lois Roberta Wasden

On Saturday, January 26 of this year we lost our beloved mother Lois Roberta Wasden, after a brief illness, at the age of 86 years. Lois was born in Saskatoon, SK on August 19, 1921 to John and Mary Thurston, the third of their five children. During her childhood, young Lois developed her considerable talent for singing and participated successfully in many vocal competitions. It was during an appearance on one of the many Saskatoon radio programs she performed in during the Second World War that she met a young announcer who was to become her husband. On October 18, 1944 she married Eric William Arthur Wasden in Saskatoon where they lived until their move to Calgary in 1951. They raised their three children together in Calgary until Dad’s untimely passing in 1977. Mom loved the sun and it was in that year together we made the first of her several trips to her favourite place on earth, Hawaii. She had a wonderful sense of style and always took great care in her appearance. Wherever Mom went in her life she made many friends with her caring and fun-loving nature and her kind and generous spirit will be remembered by all who were fortunate to have had her enter their lives. This also applied to the dogs and cats who were lucky enough to have found themselves a part of her life for she loved and cared for them like her children. She was a truly loving and caring mother to the three of us and a proud grandmother to her cherished granddaughters, Caitlyn and Jacquelyn. Mere words cannot begin to express the deep sadness we all feel at this time of her passing and we will cherish forever the love and care she gave to each of us freely and in equal measure during her lifetime. Mom was predeceased by her mother and father; her husband Eric; her sister Dorothy; and her brother Lorne. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter Heather; her son Harold, his wife Carrie and their daughters, Caitlyn and Jacquelyn; by her son Harry, all of Calgary; and by her sisters, Jean Webb of Chilliwack, BC and Beryl Moffatt (and her husband Alex) of Vernon, BC; and by her sisters-in-law, Elaine Thurston of Fort Saskatchewan, AB and Vera Wasden of Saskatoon, SK; as well as many nieces and nephews.
