Obituary of Beverly Joan Barron

Beverly Joan Barron, beloved wife of Walter, passed away on January 27, 2008 at the Foothills Medical Centre at the age of 79 years. Having grown up in Regina, Bev moved to Edmonton where she met Walter and began a fifty-four year love affair. They moved to Calgary and raised their three sons Gerry, Ronnie and Tony, her pride and joy. She created a wonderful home and life for her family. Bev was a giving and loving person, was dedicated to her family and friends and always put others first. She was a tireless community worker and devoted countless hours to Hadassah-Wizo, the Beth Israel Synagogue Sisterhood, Beth Israel Players, Northwest Council of Jewish Women, the Calgary Hebrew School and the 1988 Calgary Olympics. Bev had a passion for sewing and handicrafts, was an avid Mah Jongg player and Flames fan and was famous for her chocolate chip cookies and baking. She will be deeply missed by her loving husband and sons and the many people whose lives she made brighter. Besides her loving husband, Bev is survived by her adoring sons; her sister Peggy Levine; her aunt Gerry Baker and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Bev was predeceased by her parents Sam and Bessie Portigal; her brother Bud Portigal; her in-laws Abe and Edyth Barron and her brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Mickey Levine and Stan and Eleanor Barron. Funeral Services will be held at the Beth Tzedec Synagogue (1325 Glenmore Trail SW) on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. Internment to follow at the Jewish Cemetery (30th Avenue and Erlton Street SW).
