Obituary
Obituary of Dorothy Geraldine Hogan
Our much loved and cherished Auntie Doh passed away comfortably and very peacefully at Newport Harbour Care Centre on Sunday, January 20, 2008 at the age of 81.
Dorothy led a full and active life retiring from Husky Oil at the age of 55. She enjoyed her family, travelling, reading, games of any kind, cross stitch, knitting and most especially her bridge club and golfing at Highland.
Too young, she developed Progressive Supra Nuclear Palsy and during the last eight years struggled to understand the effects of this rare condition, learning to accept it with dignity and her own style of humour and grace.
She was a very important member of our family, never missing a birthday or holiday celebration and there will be a huge void at our table and in the hearts of Gail and Doug Monk and their children, Jaime (Steve) and Braeden, Julie (Jamie), Matt, Lindsay, Megan, and Daniel. Predeceased by her mother and father, Thomas and Sarah Hogan, her brothers Mike and Tom, sisters Eileen, Kae, Rita, Lenore, Oly and Gen, and her nephew Bruce, Dorothy is survived by her sister, Sister Marie Hogan , her sister-in-law, Elsie and her brother-in-law, Albert.
The last of the infamous ‘Aunt Pile’, Auntie Doh was first a very special aunt to Eileen (Neil), Murray (Peggy), Susan (Herb), Karen (Jim), Pam (Ron), Perry, Terri-Lynn (Bruce), Gary, Ken, Gail (Doug),Cathy, Paul (Sylvia), David (Terri) and Wayne (Karen) and then became great and even great, great to their children and grandchildren. All of us will remember fondly sweaters, mittens and toques knit, games well played and stories well told.
A special thank-you to the staff of Newport Harbour, Dorothy enjoyed her stay there and appreciated all your care and attention. Dorothy was very interested in promoting PSP Research and would appreciate donations made to Parkinson’s Society of Southern Alberta, for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Research, #102, 5636 Burbank Crescent S.E., Calgary, AB T2H 1Z6 Telephone: (403) 243-9901, www.parkinsons-society.org.

Sure, ’tis like the morn in Spring.
In the lilt of Irish laughter
You can hear the angels sing.
