Obituary of Dorothy Merle Chase

Dorothy Merle Chase of Calgary passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at the age of 86 years. Born in Winnipeg, MB, she and her brother George were raised by their Aunt Rachel and Uncle Harry Cooper in Saskatoon, SK. She graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a B.A. in Languages. Our Mum loved dancing with her beloved Bryce, who she picked up in a “ladies choice”, all her “granbabies”, having coffee with the girls, time spent with Wendy and Irene, the color purple, Black Forest cake, camping and hiking with Bryce, having dinner at her children’s homes, going on cruises and most of all our Mum loved Bryce. She was the family memory bank for names, birthdays and all occasions. Our Mum was adventurous. While in high school, the only time she had skis on her feet, on a bet, she went off a ski jump, safely; because “he was cute”. In tight spots while canoeing with Bryce, she was unflappable, although on one occasion she did comment, “I don’t think my mother would like me to be here”. A tad “strait laced”, she was not above pointing out the errors of their ways to transgressing husbands. Merle will be remembered as the loyal, loving and devoted wife of Bryce; mother of Harry (Heather), Greg (Lori) and Barbara (Ian); “Gramma” of Christina (Vivek), Sarah (Sam), Jonathan, Oliver, Emily, Luc, Aaron and Virginia; and “Great-Gramma” of Calista, Abigail, Gracie, Kieran and Rohan. A Private Family Service will be held. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Our family is most grateful to Doctor Gladman and to the wonderful, supportive staff at the Extendicare Cedars Villa; in particular the staff in the Maple Unit. In living memory of Merle Chase, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Telephone: (403) 243-8200.
