Obituary of Ira James Ackerman
Jim Ackerman, of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Monday January 14, 2008 at the young age of 57 years.
Jim grew up in Taber, AB leaving home after high school to begin working in the Calgary. He began his career in the banking business and ended it working with Revenue Canada. Jim was always a bit apart from the norm. As a young teenager, he enjoyed singing and acting and took the lead role in a community production of “Johnny Appleseed” strutting the stage with his “tin pot” hat, singing his heart out. He was always a “going concern” with a passion to meet and speak to others. He had a genuine interest in a person’s story. He was a voracious reader so could keep up his end of most conversations. He joined Revenue Canada over twenty years ago, working in the “Collections” area much of that time. Many of his clients have spoken of his professionalism and desire to help in a challenging time. Many of his working colleagues have spent hours by his side at the hospital and have shown a remarkable outpouring of love and respect for him. He was an interesting man who tried to leave a positive footprint in the world. I am sure he would tell us all that “I would like the memory of me to be a happy one. I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.” (Afterglow).
Jim is survived by his mother Loreen Ackerman of Lethbridge, and brother Phil Ackerman (Cheryl) of Calgary. He had six nieces and nephews and numerous cousins in this area.
