Obituary of Asoke Chowdhury

Asoke Chowdhury, beloved husband of Biva Rani Chowdhury, of Calgary passed away peacefully in Edmonton on Sunday, January 6, 2008 at the age of 87 years. Asoke Chowdhury, beloved father, grandfather and patriarch of the Chowdhury family was born in the city of Noakhali, Bangladesh. He studied in Bangladesh and then in Kolkata, India where he graduated with a B.S.C. from university. Asoke had a successful career as a government food inspection officer. He became an adored and respected father to eight children. Later in life, after retirement, he immigrated to Calgary, AB with his wife and four of his youngest sons. Here in Canada he thrived as a respected and well loved member of the local Bengali community. Asoke is survived and will be sadly missed by two daughters, Swapna (Subrota) Sen and Uma (Kanti) Kar; six sons, Anjan (Manu) Chowdhury, Amlan Chowdhury, Ashim (Vaswati) Chowdhury, Anupam (Soma) Chowdhury, Arijit (Anindita) Chowdhury and Avijit (Avanti) Chowdhury; ten grandchildren, Mousomi, Saikat, Rima (Niranjan), Ramit, Anindita, Dev, Ankanaa, Rajeeta, Soneka, Shreyas; two great-grandchildren and sixteen cousins in India. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Thursday, January 10, 2008 at 5:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
