Obituary of John Wayne Carey

John “Wayne” Carey, beloved husband of Verna, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2008 after a lengthy illness of heart, kidney and diabetes disease, at the age of 65 years. His journey in life is finally over. Wayne was born on July 17, 1942 in Edmonton, AB. He loved woodworking and was an avid sports fan. He was instrumental as a founder of the Calgary, Minor Softball Umpires Association and a lifetime member. He spent many tireless years as a volunteer with the Mac’s Hockey Tournament. Wayne worked for the Federal Government in Inuvik and the Territorial Government in Yellowknife, NWT as a fire Inspector and with Petro Canada and Canada Post, in the Occupational Health and Safety field. Besides his loving wife of forty years Verna, Wayne is survived by his daughter Toni (fiancée, Trevor Ferris), of Ladner, BC; his sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Temple Cox; and his nephew Borden Cox, all, of Edmonton, AB. Wayne was predeceased by his niece Kathleen Kehoe in 1998, and his parents Phillip (Ray) Carey and Mary O’Sullivan.
