Obituary of Dragica Kalyta

It is with great sadness and sorrow that I announce the passing of my Mother, Dorothy Kalyta of Calgary on Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at the age of 84 years. Dorothy was born on July 29, 1923 in Yugoslavia and immigrated to Canada in 1930. The family moved to the Cassils area where her father worked for the CPR. Dorothy grew up in Cassils and later moved to Calgary where she met her husband of sixty-two years. They resided in Calgary, raising their two children until the early 1960’s and the family purchased a farm in the Brooks area and farmed until 1968. Upon Mike and Dorothy’s retirement, they moved to Creston, BC and later home to Calgary in 1973. Dorothy was a loving and devoted Wife and Mother. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed her “therapy”, putting her bare hands in the soil planting flowers and her vegetable garden. She was a selfless woman. Dorothy is survived by her daughter Darlene (Sheridan) of Calgary; daughter-in-law Carol; three grandchildren, Jim, Lori (Jim) and Janice; a great-granddaughter Kianna; and great-grandson Kobe, all of Edmonton, AB. She is also survived by her brother Peter Cindric of Calgary; and sister Kay Miller of Chilliwack, BC. She was predeceased by her husband Mike and son Michael. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
