Obituary of Ervin Magistad
Ervin Magistad, beloved husband of Barb of Calgary, passed away on December 25, 2007 at the age of 72 years, just six days after his birthday.
Ervin was born on the family farm in Ardmore, AB and came to Calgary when he was just seventeen years old, for a job in seismograph, where he lived with his big sister Irene. While living with her and her husband John, he met Barbara McGuinness who became his wife on August 31, 1963. In 1965 he started working for the City of Calgary and was there until 1978, when he left to drive truck for Alberta Processing Co. He worked at AP for the next seventeen years alongside his very dear friend, Nick Morosoff. Ervin officially retired from AP in 1996, however, went back to work for them part-time until 1998 when health issues dictated it was time to slow down. Ervin and Barb raised four children together all of whom still call the house in Glamorgan ‘home’. Of all the things he saw and did, Ervin was most proud of being a husband and father – of course only until he became a Grandpa. He was so very proud when both his Grandsons came into his life and they will be reminded often of how much Grandpa in Calgary loved them. Next to his family, Ervin took great pride in being ‘Uncle’. There are many, many children and families who found a special place in his heart throughout the years.
Ervin is survived by his loving and devoted wife Barbara (McGuinness); three daughters Cheryl of Calgary, AB, Lori (Ed) Beerwart of St. Albert, AB and Cindy of Crossfield, AB; son Neil (Tally) of Vermillion, AB; grandsons Quinn and Will Beerwart of St. Albert, AB. Ervin is also remembered by his grandpug Oscar of Crossfield, AB; his brother Charles (Barb) of Ardmore, AB; sisters Irene Swigart of Calgary and Vivian Tisdale of Red Deer, AB. Ervin is also survived by many dear friends and relatives who he shared many laughs with over the years. Ervin was predeceased by his ‘Daddy’ Martin Magistad in 1964 and his beloved ‘Mom’ Gladys Cullum in 1995.
