Obituary of Diane Spindel
Diane Spindel of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Rockyview General Hospital on Monday, December 25, 2007 at the age of 83 years. She was lovingly attended by her two daughters Andria Spindel of Toronto and Deborah Sword of Calgary; her grand-daughter Mattea Spindel Duprey; niece Belinda Mellor and nephew Brent Winston.
Proudly Calgarian, born on November 7, 1924, Diane attended Connaught, Sunalta and Western Canada High School, graduating in 1944. She married David in 1946 and they lived in Trail, BC, before settling in Calgary where they were part of a large, extended, loving family. Diane was involved in much community work with Hadassah, National Council of Jewish Women, and the Shaarey Tzedec Sisterhood. Diane remarked on her sixty-fifth birthday that she was surprised to have survived so long, given her lengthy history of illness and disability. Her family much admired her strong heart and life preserving values.
Diane is survived by two sisters Elizabeth Yan of Toronto and Anne Brodsky of Calgary; brother, William Switzer of Vancouver; grandsons Jacob Duprey and Ethan Spindel; granddaughter, Beth Lawrence and special cousin Bertha Gold. Diane was predeceased by her husband M. David Spindel and her parents Meyer and Etta Switzer.
Funeral Services will be held at the Temple B’nai Tikvah, (900-47th Ave. SW., Calgary) on Thursday, December 27, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery, 3219 – 4th St. N.W. Reception following at the Calgary Jewish Community Centre. Memorial tributes may be made to Jewish Family Service Calgary, #420 5920 1A St. S.W.
