Betty Whiting

Obituary of Betty Cecile Whiting

It is with great sorrow that the family of Betty Whiting announce the passing of our beloved mother and Nanny on Friday, December 14, 2007 at the age of 85 years. Betty was born in Lucerne, BC on January 23, 1922 to Joseph and Florence Roy. She spent her childhood and school years in the Swan Hills area of Manitoba until leaving home at the age of 20 to become a proud member of the R.C.A.F. Stationed in Vulcan, Alberta, Betty was the driver to the base Commanding Officer and it was there she would meet the love of her life. Betty married Harold Whiting on September 16, 1943 and they spent the remainder of the war stationed in Washington, DC. They returned to Canada settling in Redvers, Saskatchewan where their only child was born. The family moved to Calgary in 1950 where Betty has lived until her passing. Betty had a passion for reading and loved to knit and bake special cookies for her grandchildren. She was a stay at home mom taking great pride in her job and volunteered her free time in the community and the school. She spent the rest of her years doting on her three grandsons and more recently on her precious five great-granddaughters. Betty leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Lynne (Tony) Fisher, her grandsons Brett (Anita), Chad (Annie) and Dean (Kelly) Fisher, and by her treasured great-granddaughters, Sydney, Ashley, Morgan, Mia and Sarah Fisher. She also leaves to fondly remember her many, much loved nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by her husband Harold in 1984, her only sister Adele, and by many dear relatives and friends.
