Obituary of John Wylie

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of a dear father, husband, grandfather and great-grandpa, with his white hair. Predeceased by his loving wife and soul mate, Elizabeth Ann Wylie on March 23, 2006, John is now in her loving arms in Heaven with God. John has lived in Calgary for the last thirty-nine years. He was born and raised in Galt, ON and lived there for thirty-nine years. He served four years in the Highland Light Infantry of Canada (1947) and three years with The Lord Strathcona House in Galt, ON. John was also stationed in Wainwright, AB, Camp Borden, ON and the Currie Barricks in Calgary. He left with an honourable discharge in 1952. John’s career was varied and consisted of being a milkman with Cedar Hill Dairy, Dixon Dairy, Alpha Dairy, Purity Dairy and Palm Dairy for a total of twenty-five years. He also worked for Conmack Cement and the remainder of his career at #264 Royal Canadian Legion which was his second home for the last thirty-five years and he was honoured with a life time membership at the #264 Legion. John gave blood for many years and in all gave one hundred and thirty nine pints of blood to the Red Cross He was given an honour certificate from the Premier of Alberta, Peter Lougheed. John was an inspiration to everyone that knew him. His kindness, laughter and witty jokes will be with us always and forever. He only had kind words for everyone that knew and loved him. John will be sadly missed by his six children who have nothing but love and respect for their father, Maggie, Norm (Theresa), Jack (Trudy), Heather (Steve), Terry (Vern) and Rob; grandchildren, Robbie, Jason, Donna, Tracy, Vickie, Corina, Shane, Tanya, William, Melia, Brodie, Normie and Sam; great-grandchildren, Yasmin, Caleb, Halle, Noah, Jordan, Corey, Devon and a grandson Kayden, to be born in March 2008 to Vickie and Tim. He was predeceased by his parents Samuel and Agnes Wylie and his sister Margaret Ingold. A Memorial Service will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #264, (1910 Kensington Road, N.W.) on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. The family would like to thank the staff of the 8th floor at the Foothills Medical Centre, the Southwood Hospice and and special thanks to Dr. Pamela Goebel.
