On behalf of the Ivan Buburuz Family, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the Yee Family. When our family was young, we lived in the Cathedral area at 2344 Montague Street and family time at Kowloons for delicious meals was a truly memorable and enjoyable experience for my husband and I and our two daughters and it was all because of Joe, a man so kind, always smiling, always happy to see us. I don’t remember a time when he didn’t come out of the kitchen to greet us or to pull up a chair at our table to talk with us. It was Joe who taught me how to select the best steaks at the grocery store. And it was always so lovely to see a family business with his wife and children were right there with him. He was so good to everyone in the community. I remember how he donated gift certificates for meals at Kowloons as prizes to be given at one of the special events held at Holy Rosary School. He was loving, generous and kind and he will be remembered and sorely missed by so many for the happiness he brought to others and for the joy he took in spending time with people in the neighbourhood. He was such a people person, and always laughing. It was wonderful to hear that Joe and his wife were was blessed with grandchildren and that all of you enjoyed so many good times together. You’re a beautiful family and the head of your family was one of my favourite people!
It was a pleasure growing up in Regina and visiting uncle Joe’s restaurant. He always treated us like children of his own, beaming his infectious smile and letting us grab a pack of gum (or two) off the store’s shelf. Uncle Joe will be missed dearly. Our sincere condolences to the Yee family.
With sincere sympathy for the loss of your loving “Joe”. We will miss his big smile and friendly “hellos” in our hallways at the Sierras of Tuscany.

Sending condolences to the Yee family. Reading about his passing brought back wonderful memories of having lunch at the restaurant. The mention of his Wonton soup made my mouth water. Haven’t been able to find any food that even comes close to his. He was always so friendly and truly cared about his patrons. You all can be proud of the man he was. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Another SPECIAL angel. God Bless.
To the Yee family: I will always have fond memories of Joe. I met him when My Mother, brother & me moved to Regina from the United States. My Mom rented a house on Elphinstone Street right around the corner from Kowloon Confectionary. I was 5 years old. I made my very first best friends by playing with Gail & Glen. Even after we moved out of the neighbourhood, my Mom would make a point of dropping by the confectionary with us for a visit. Joe would always exclaim a greeting & pinch my cheeks, always with a big smile. When the confectionery became the restaurant, I would love to go for a steaming delicious bowl of wonton soup & a chat with Joe. Imagine my surprise when my boyfriend’s brother started dating Gail. After a few years, my first best friend became my Sister In Law. Joe was a great man. He will truly be missed.

We are sad to hear of Joes passing. We also loved his culinary expertise. We remember Greg, Garvey, little Gail standing at the till ringing in meals. Glen helping in the kitchen. Mary who sgood behind her Joe and delivered the food to the table. Always immaculate our families and El-Mec-Tronics staff were daily patrons. Bless you all and may the memories be good ones as we have of Joe.
Your father/grandfather was always so friendly to our family as we enjoyed our ritual Saturday lunches at Kowloons – no Wonton soup or egg roll has ever even come close to his! It is nice to read that he enjoyed his retirement years with his children and grandchildren. Our condolences to your family.
Dear Mary, Greg, Garvey, Gail, Glen and Family: On behalf of the entire Dietrich family, I send our sympathies and condolences. Our father, Kurt, passed away in 2009 and our mother, Eunice, passed away in 2012, then 2 years ago my husband and I purchased our parents’ old house in which my daughter and grandson (also named Kurt!) now reside. Your house on Montague Street is doing well and recently renovated!
We always fondly remember the wonderful Wonton soup and great food at Kowloon Restaurant and how friendly your Dad and Mom were to all of us Dietrich members. Your family was a very friendly neighbour to my parents too and we will cherish our memories.
Sincerely, Julie Atter (nee Dietrich)
Joe will not be forgotten by the people of Regina. Our family has many warm memories of talking and joking with Joe while we enjoyed delicious food at the Kowloon. He was kind and welcoming to everyone. May he rest in peace.
Dear Yee Mama, Greg, Garvey, Gail and Glen,
I am so sorry for your loss. My deepest sympathies goes out to your family. Your father was a great man who played a special role in my life. His compassion and kindness had an immeasurable impact on my life. I am forever grateful to having received his love and care.
Farewell me dearest God Father Baba. Thank you. You will remain in my heart always.
Love, A Feng
Uncle Joe was a sweet and loving human being. I feel so lucky to have him as my uncle. With his beautiful personality he also brought up 4 beautiful children. Even though my cousins and I don’t often see each other, I treasure them dearly. We will all miss him but the joyous and precious memories he left with us will never be forgotten .
Glen, I am so sorry for your loss. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.
My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time.
beloved Uncle Yee (aka Yee Bei Bei) was truly the best uncle ever. He played such significant role in my childhood life by always sharing his kindness, always light up a room with laughters, always prep the best what he called “after school snack” – best Fries, super delicious French toast, yummy steak..(the off menu dishes at Kowloon restaurant, Regina) , and asked my day at school. We will miss you very much, and thank you, thank you and thank you Uncle Yee for being you and do all you did.
