Obituary of Joyce Mary Ferguson Smith

Joyce Mary Ferguson Smith of Calgary passed away on her terms at the Peter Lougheed Centre, on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at the age of 73 years. Joyce was born on August 12, 1934 in Ponoka, AB. After living in every corner of Southern Alberta, Joyce and her family settled in Calgary. When her children were school aged she returned to school herself, eventually graduating with distinction from the Social Work Program at the University of Calgary. Joyce was instrumental in establishing the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter and was involved for many years there. She managed the constituency office for Jim Hawkes MP for Calgary West and later was a commissioner on the review board for Veterans Affairs in Charlottetown, PEI. Joyce will be greatly missed by her sons, Grant and Roger, and their families; as well as countless friends, relative, admirers and surrogate family members.
