Obituary of Andrew Winczura

Andrew (Andy) Winczura of Calgary passed away on Monday, December 10, 2007 at the age of 86 years. Andy was born on November 27, 1921 in Drumheller, AB, the youngest of ten children. He was raised on a farm near Round Hill, AB. Andy enlisted with the Calgary 48th Highlanders during WWII and served overseas in England, Sicily and participated in the liberation of Holland. He returned to Canada with his war bride Johanna and raised two children John and Aleida. In 1956 Andy remarried, Victoria Scott and raised a family with her. Following the war Andy worked as a roughneck in the Alberta oil fields and later worked as a truck driver until he retired. Andy is survived by his children and their spouses, Randy and Karen Winczura, of Calgary, John Winczura and Andrea Stearns, of Alaska, Wendy and Victor Lockhart, of Calgary and Aleida and Claude Ray of California. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He especially enjoyed his time with his grandchildren in Calgary, Lyndsey and Brandon and his great-grandson Andrew. Andy was predeceased by his wife Victoria and son Richard. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle, N.W.) on Friday, December 14, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
