Obituary of Hugh Reid

Hugh Reid beloved husband of Mona Reid of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at the age of 87 years. Hugh was born in Millhouse, Lesmahagow, Scotland to parents, Alexander and Margaret Reid on October 8, 1920. He grew up in Lanark Scotland and in 1941 Hugh volunteered with the RAF and was posted in the Shetland Islands. He was then transferred to the British Air Training and was stationed in Medicine Hat, AB. At the end of World War II Hugh served in the King’s own Scottish Borderers and the Argylle and Southern Highlanders as a Peacekeeper in Germany. Hugh ended his military career as a proud World War II Veteran. After the war Hugh immigrated to Canada and began a successful career as a Journeyman Painter and Decorator who worked primarily at S.A.I.T. Hugh will be remembered as a generous soul who always enjoyed helping others. He was very active in the church and as an elder. He enjoyed socializing with his friends at the Heritage Seniors where he carpet bowled, golfed and attended an exercise class. Hugh like to travel and because of this he had many exciting trips to Hawaii. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and was their biggest fan at their soccer and hockey games. Besides his loving wife Mona, Hugh is survived by his son Sandy, daughter Heather and son-in-law Craig, and by his grandchildren Kristin and Jordan. He will also be lovingly remembered by his sisters and brother-in-law, Margaret and Marian and Bill, by his brother and sister-in-law Alec and Netta. Hugh was predeceased by his parents Alexander and Margaret, brother George, and by his brother-in-law Tom.
