Obituary of William Ronald Hinks
William (Bill) Ronald Hinks, beloved husband, father and brother, passed away peacefully with family at his side at the Foothills Medical Centre on Friday, November 30, 2007 at the age of 61 years.
Besides his loving wife Yvonne, Bill is survived by his daughters Janice of Calgary, and Suzanne of Montreal, QC; and his sister Linda Krause of Orlando, FL. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Thomas Charles Hinks and Lavinia Randolph Hinks.
A native of Chatham, ON, Bill served in the militia in the 2nd Battalion of the Essex and Kent Scottish for a number of years. He moved to Calgary in 1967 making it his permanent home. An accountant by training, he worked for CIL, Western Aluminium Products and Westwood Windows prior to setting up and running his own business. Bill was an avid scuba diver until ill heath prevented him from continuing. He loved exploring many of Alberta’s lakes but preferred diving off the coast of British Columbia especially near Powell River where underwater life was abundant. Bill was active in the Five Fathom Club in Calgary, and served as the vice-president of the Alberta Scuba Divers Council for two years and then as president for five years, receiving the Diver of the Year Award in 1977, and represented Alberta with the Executive of the A.C.U.C. Bill loved fishing and taking month-long camping expeditions throughout Alberta and British Columbia with his entire family, including all the pets. As the years went by, life with diabetes became more and more of a struggle, though one he fought with courage and determination. He will be missed by family and friends.
