Obituary of Edna Neola Buchan

With loving memories, Beth and Heather announce the passing of their mother Edna in Calgary, on Thursday, November 22, 2007 at the age of 93 years. Edna was born, raised and started her married life in Melfort, Saskatchewan. In 1954, Edna and her husband Alex purchased Hudson Bay Dairy and moved to Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan. Edna was an equal working partner in the business while continuing to raise her family and participate enthusiastically in her community and her church. After Alex’s death, she moved to Calgary in 1977 where she became an active member in St. Augustine’s Church until her death. A life-long interest in cooking and ethnic foods began prior to her marriage, with a job as domestic helper to a Lebanese family. Her love of music came from a musical father and brothers. Her love of language started in high school Latin class and resulted in a prodigious talent for scrabble and crosswords. She delighted in sharing her passions with her children and grandchildren and their partners. She is fondly remembered by her family for her love, guidance and support. Edna is survived by Bethyl Sadler (Lawrence), Gillian, Greg; Carol Buchan, Scott, Brent, Rodney, and Alistair; Heather Black (Peter), Andrew and Norah. She is also survived by ten delightful great-grandchildren; and her brothers Warren and Viril (Dyan) Peperkorn. Edna was predeceased by her husband Alex (1972), her son Brian (1989), father Henry (1954), mother Margret (1987), and brothers Glen (1954), Floyd (1988), and Harold (1989). Funeral Services will be held at St. Augustine’s Anglican Church (7602 – 22A Street S.E.) on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. Burial of Edna’s urn will take place at a later date in Hudson Bay Cemetery, Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan.
