Obituary of Mary Wittstock
Mary Wittstock of Calgary, formerly of Acme, AB, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 23, 2007 at the age of 83.
Born in Sokul, Poland, Mary was uprooted during the war and with her parents was shuffled through various work and refugee camps; including the former Soviet Union, Zambia and various places between. In 1949, she arrived in Canada through Pier 21 in Halifax, NS, en route to settle with relatives in the North Battleford area. That same year, Mary came to Calgary to work as a seamstress at the Baker Sanatorium where she made many lifelong friends in the Polish community. In 1950 she married Frank Wittstock, then, in 1953 the young couple moved to a farm north of Acme. She was an active member of the Acme and Beiseker communities, where she always lent a helping hand. Mary dedicated her life to hard work and making a better life for her children and grandchildren.
Mary will be lovingly remembered by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Barbara Wittstock of Acme, AB, Edmond Wittstock and Cindy Yasumatsu of Springbank, AB; her five grandchildren, Megan, Laura, Tanner, Madison and Keelan to whom she was a loving “Babcia”; as well as her extended family members and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Frank in 1985, her infant son Anthony in 1955, her brother Stefan Czwartkowski and her sister Kasia Czwartkowski.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (Beiseker) on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery (Beiseker). Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
