Obituary of John Taks
John Taks of Madden passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2007 at the age of 86 years.
John was born on January 9, 1921 in Etten Leur, Holland. He came to Canada along with his four siblings and parents in 1928 John and his family settled in Strathmore, AB. In 1942 John was enlisted in the army where he was a bugler and rifleman. John farmed and homesteaded near Carstairs and Crossfield, finally settling near Madden, AB where he lived and farmed as a bachelor until he married Myrtle Beierbach in 1946. John was blessed with two children, his son Rick in 1952 and his daughter Rhonda in 1958.Throughout their many years of marriage, John & Myrtle farmed together with great pride, they shared many happy years of growing outstanding barley crops and raising cattle. John was a very active person. He curled on many teams throughout the surrounding communities and came home with many trophies. Later in his life John took up golfing and traveled to many places in North America to try new golf courses. John and Myrtle retired in 1975 and start traveling in their motor home to Olivia, Texas, Yuma, Arizona, Florida, Mexico, Shuswap, Niagara Falls and Alaska. John’s passions included farming, playing guitar, golfing, travelling, watersking, and playing cards with his family and friends. Losing is beloved wife and soul mate in 1998 was a struggle for him and his family. John also struggled with his failing health for nearly 10 years, although his mind was clear and sharp, his body was weak and tired. John will be deeply remembered for his fabulous sense of humor, including practical jokes that he took as well as he gave.
Funeral Services will be held at Crossfield Community Hall (920 Mountain Avenue T0M 0S0) on Friday, November 9, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Crossfield Cemetery.
