Obituary of Rex William Meville
Rex Meville of Calgary passed away on Monday, November 5, 2007 at the age of 88 years, after a short but courageous struggle with the long-term effects of diabetes.
Born in Penetanguishene, ON in May of 1919, Rex moved throughout northern Alberta and Saskatchewan, moving his family in 1956 from Moosomin, SK to Calgary. Rex had an entrepreneurial spirit, was a journeyman electrician and was skilled in numerous trades. He spent twenty-two years with Dome Petroleum but always had a sideline business. He retired to Okotoks in 1980 and moved back to Calgary in 1997. His passion was political debate, making sawdust in his workshop and visiting friends at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #264. His love was the mountains, the ocean and reading “dusters” – his term for western-themed books.
Rex is survived by his wife Connie; his children, Myrna Meville and Ken and Linda Meville; grandchildren, Robin and Lisa Meville, Michelle and Gareth Joels, Kevin Meville, and Kyle and Stephanie Meville; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife of fifty-eight years Vera.
