Obituary of Stanley Rowland Kirkham

Stanley Kirkham, beloved husband of Marjorie (Marj) Kirkham of Calgary, passed away after a lengthy illness on Sunday, November 4, 2007 at the age of 88 years. Following his education, Stan worked for the Bank of Montreal before serving overseas for his country with the R.A.F. Upon his return he took over the family grocery store in Duncan, BC. Stan sold the store and moved to Calgary, where he owned and operated Ye Old Pipe Shop and Tower Variations in Palliser Square. He retired in 1983, and he and Marjorie (Marj) enjoyed travelling along with their son Ken, wintering in Arizona. Stan was a member of the Lion’s Club for many years and served a term as president and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion #264. He enjoyed many activities with his family and friends, but most of all, Stan was an avid curler. Besides his loving wife Marjorie, (Marj) Stan is also survived by his son Ken Kirkham of Calgary, AB; his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Dennis Schneider of Duncan, BC; and by his step children, Judy Jackson of Port Coquitlam, BC, Rick and Helen Jackson of West Bank, BC, and Wayne King of Vancouver, BC. Stan will be lovingly remembered by his nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He is also survived by his sister Noella Pritchard, of Surrey, BC; sisters-in law, Irene Krook of Mississauga, ON and Doreen Sneider of Edmonton, AB; brothers-in law, John and Pearl King of Kelowna, BC and Roy Miller of Edmonton, AB. Stan was predeceased by his son Wayne Kirkham; sisters, Elsie, Gladys and Fran; and by his parents Sydney and Daisy.
