Lydia Faas

Obituary of Lydia Faas

Lydia Faas of Calgary passed away at Southwood Care Centre on Saturday, October 27, 2007 at the age of 92 years. Lydia was born in the Cypress Hills area in 1915. She lived on the farm, working very hard until she married Emil Faas in 1930. They left Cypress Hills to look for work in Crossfield. They worked and lived with relatives in Crossfield, then in 1935 when Norm was born they moved to Calgary looking for a better life. She and Emil struggled through the depression but eventually prospered and spent many happy years living in Calgary, with Emil’s music and Lydia’s job at the 400 Club which she loved. She enjoyed her many friends, gardening, bingo, and was known for her excellent cooking skills. She especially enjoyed raising her three sons. Emil and Lydia retired to Kelowna in 1977 where they spent many enjoyable years; the wonderful, warm Okanagan weather, extensive travelling, their warm swimming pool, and visits from their children and grandchildren. Emil passed away in 1993, and Lydia stayed in Kelowna until 2003, when she returned to Calgary to spend her remaining years. Lydia is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Norm and Kathryn, Chuck and Sandy, Ray and Judy; grandchildren, Brent, Mark, Craig, Joanne, David, Darren, Alan, and Danny; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lydia was predeceased by her parents, five sisters and three brothers.
