Obituary of Walter Thachuk

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Wally Thachuk. Wally passed away with his family by his side at the Intercede Chinook Hospice on Saturday, October 27, 2007 at the age of 81 years. Wally was born on December 18, 1925 in Preeceville, SK. He went overseas at the age of sixteen and a half years on a Corvette K181 HMCS Sackville on escort duty for troop and supply ships in the North Atlantic from German U-boats. He transferred to a Canadian Cruiser and was engaged in the South Pacific against the Japanese fleet and the Kamikaze suicide aircraft. He received the Bruma Star and was discharged in 1945 at the end of the war. Wally had a very strong work ethic and worked for AGT, Telus for thirty-three years, retiring in 1982. Wally lived life to the fullest and was still salmon fishing off the Queen Charlottes in August of this year. He was well known for his generosity and in helping other. Wally will be dearly missed by his family and close friends. He was predeceased by his wife Jean in 1971. Wally is survived by his two sons and daughter-in-law, Jim and Lori and Todd; his grandson Evan. He was also predeceased by his second wife Carol in 1999, and will be missed by her family, Sandy (Mark), Stephanie, Ettienne, Doug (Pam) Spencer. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Saturday, November 3, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
