Obituary of Verna A

Verna A. Birney, of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2007 at the Extendicare Cedars Villa at the age of 97 years. Verna was born on June 7, 1910 and raised in Calgary. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Calgary General Hospital in 1932 and spent several years with the Group Nursing serving patients in their homes. She then spent a number of years on a farm in the Red Deer Lake area just south of Calgary and returned to Calgary in 1954 where she has resided since. Upon her return she worked at the Alberta Children’s Hospital and followed by working as a dental assistant with the late Donald H. Pedlar until her retirement. The last eight years she has resided at the Extendicare Cedars Villa. Verna is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Dick and Betty Withell and niece Audrey (Roy) Schickerowski. She was predeceased by her sisters Frances Birney and Phyllis Johnston; and her niece Beverley (Joe) Zipoth.
